Last night I voted to increase neighbourhood policing, which Government MPs voted down. After 13 years, the Conservative legacy is criminals being let off while victims are let down.
Parents worry about their children playing in the park or being targeted online. Pensioners worry about scams or being robbed in the street. Small businesses worry they will be targeted by thieves or vandals. Knife crime plagues too many communities, women feel less safe on the streets, and antisocial behaviour ruins lives without consequence.
Keir Starmer led the Crown Prosecution Service – locking up serious criminals and terrorists and standing up for victims and their families. Conservative Prime Ministers have broken the law in office and undermined respect in local communities.
Labour is the party of law and order. The last Labour government cut crime by a third and rolled out neighbourhood policing across the country. The next Labour government will rebuild neighbourhood policing, delivering a package of 13,000 extra neighbourhood officers and PCSOs, putting police back on the beat.
