I visited Southampton Port to discuss the supply chain crisis that has been impacting businesses across the UK this Winter and discuss the steps that need to be taken to resolve it. Container ports around the world are dealing with backlogs in containers. UK ports are experiencing particularly high volumes as a result of that combined with additional traffic as businesses ready Christmas stock.

The Government has failed to listen to Labour’s warnings on HGV driver shortages and their inaction has made the crisis significantly worse.  The result has been less choice on the shelves for consumers, prices rising and disruption for businesses who are trying to recover from the pandemic.

It was great to visit the Port and speak with Sue Simmonite, ABP Southampton Sustainable Development Manager, about the realities of the supply chain crisis and what was needed to resolve issues.
