Feltham & Heston MP Seema Malhotra has welcomed the announcement of the e-cargo bike trial delivery service and has called for the service to be extended to the west of the Borough.
The trial e-cargo bike delivery service has been launched by Hounslow Council and Sustrans, for businesses in the Chiswick area. The trial is being run in partnership with London Bike Hub and Our High Road and aims to help support local businesses by providing an alternative zero-carbon delivery option. In doing so, the trial will help support local policies of encouraging active travel and reducing the number of short private car journeys, as well as aiding high street resilience in the COVID-19 crisis.
The cargo bike delivery service initial trial in September was a great success, recording 40 deliveries, covering 110km and saving 30kg of Carbon Dioxide.
Roll out of the trial e-cargo bike service will focus on working with businesses in and around the Chiswick area, delivering within a 2.5 mile radius. It will be a completely free service for businesses for the trial period where a courier will come to their premises to collect the items for delivery and deliver them in the local area.
Malhotra welcomed the work of Councillor Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport at Hounslow Council who said:
“This is a wonderful initiative that makes our streets cleaner, healthier and safer for pedestrians and cyclist. We need to reduce the number of car trips being made and allow people space to socially distance while they shop.”
