Seema Malhotra today joined Unite the Union’s “Low Pay Open Day”, calling for the London Living Wage of £10.55 to be rolled out to all employers in Heathrow Airport. The event was hosted by Unite, but was open to anyone who worked in Heathrow Airport.

Heathrow Airport is one of the largest employment sites in London, with 76,000 people working within the Airport boundary.

Last year, Heathrow Airport Limited, which employs 6000 staff directly, pledged to pay all staff the London Living Wage. In the process, it became the world’s first Living Wage airport. Unions, including Unite the Union and GMB, are calling for all employers within the boundaries of Heathrow Airport to become Living Wage-accredited.

Also in attendance were Wayne King, the Regional Co-ordinating Officer for Heathrow Airport, and Virendra Sharma, Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall.
