Seema Malhotra, Labour and Cooperative MP for Feltham is demanding action from the government to help local business facing a big jump in their business rates bill.
Government proposals for revaluation of business rates will mean businesses in Hounslow overall will a rise of 12 per cent – equating to a rise of £22 million.
Seema Malhotra said: “A jump in their rate bill could be the final blow for many firms at a time when they are struggling with rising import costs, dearer energy prices and squeezed margins. The Chancellor must come up with a plan to shield smaller business from the damaging effects of his policies.”
She continued: “Hitting small businesses so hard will be counterproductive. They provide crucial jobs for local people and put money into the wider economy. Small business start-ups great innovators who drive future growth. They must be protected. ”
