Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra has called on the local community to sign-up to support a new community initiative Hounslow’s Promise which aims to increase education attainment, employability and social mobility of all the young people of Hounslow.

The initiative was launched by the Hounslow MPs on Thursday 26th January with Hounslow’s Promise partner Cranford Community College.

The event was attended by 300 people including representatives of local charities and community organisations, businesses and schools, Guests included representatives from the Prince’s Trust, The Prince’s Teaching Institute, the Social Mobility Commission and Hounslow Council, as well as councillors from across Hounslow.

The event also saw the launch of the new flagship two-step mentoring scheme. Mentors from the community and from business are invited to apply to be local mentors providing guidance and support to students, who will in turn provide much needed mentoring to younger students.

Seema Malhotra, Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston says:

“Hounslow’s Promise is about coming together as a community to support our schools and parents and give our young people the best chance in life. I want to see people come forward from the local community, offer their time and apply to be mentors to young people in Hounslow. It was amazing to see such support for the initiative which we have been developing for the last 6 months and I believe together we can make a huge difference for many years to come.

Kevin Prunty, Executive Head teacher at Cranford Community School, said

“As someone who was born, raised and educated in this area I am passionate about transforming our community.  Hounslow’s Promise is a high quality initiative that, I believe, will make a real difference to the life chances of our children and their families.  In such challenging times, we as adults have a duty to support and encourage our young people and ensure that they bristle with hope and optimism for their futures.”

The event also saw a raffle raise £270 for Feltham Air Cadets

Notes to Editors

Hounslow’s Promise is a new borough-wide initiative set up by the Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston, Seema Malhotra MP, alongside Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth, Ruth Cadbury MP.

It has been developed in partnership with Cranford Community College with input from schools, business, councillors, members of Hounslow Youth Council and community organisations.

Hounslow’s Promise is a new initiative based on the belief that all children are capable of achieving their potential and that the whole community shares a responsibility to help young people succeed.

Based on five promises, it seeks to improve educational attainment, employability, youth leadership and social mobility.

The five promises are to provide: a network of caring adults, safe place and facilities, supporting teachers, a healthy start and opportunities forH youth leadership.

It sends a simple message of aspiration – that every young person is valued, all young people should be supported to accomplish their goals and no young person should be left behind. We all have a part to play in the success of the next generation.
