On 5th August 2021, the Government published details on its Help to Grow: Management Scheme, which offers 12-week programmes to senior managers of small and medium enterprises to help them boost their businesses. In his Spring Statement, Chancellor Rishi Sunak highlighted Help to Grow as a key government policy helping businesses.

However, despite aiming to run programmes for 30,000 business leaders, by January 2022, only 402 businesses had completed the Help to Grow programme, meaning it met just 1% of its target.

It is clear the Help to Grow Management Scheme is failing to deliver.

British businesses are crying out for help, with the huge rises in inflation and business costs putting many firmly on the edge. Yet the only help small businesses are getting from the Chancellor are piecemeal schemes that aren’t working.

Small and medium businesses need a government on their side willing to take the steps needed to grow our economy. We are seeing more and more evidence that the Conservatives just aren’t up to this.
