This year to celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June, I launched a photography and drawing competition for young people in Feltham and Heston.

World Environment Day is a day dedicated for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. I launched this competition to raise awareness on the importance of taking care of the environment and to see Hounslow through the eyes of young people. Young people from across all age groups throughout the constituency took part,  demonstrating that climate related issues are a top priority for both myself and the youth in Feltham & Heston.

I am so proud and overwhelmed by the number of entries we have received, showing just how passionate our young people are about caring for the environment. I want to thank my constituents and the young people who live in Feltham and Heston for all the work they do, campaigning on issues ranging from deforestation and badger culling to air pollution and everything in between.

I also would like to dedicate a big thank you to our expert panel of judges, who have kindly dedicated their time in helping us choose our winners!

A big thank you to:

  • Jonty Fulford

Jonty Fulford spent all his working life in broadcasting. He did most of his work in BBC Television (where he was known more formally as Jonathan).  He specialised in producing and directing arts (mainly music) programmes.

Over the years he was responsible for coverage of the Young Musician series, the Leeds Piano Competition and the BBC Proms. He directed the famous Last Night of the Proms for three consecutive years. Although strictly an amateur photographer, Jonty hopes he has learned a bit from watching the real professionals at work!

Now retired, he lives in Hounslow where he serves as a governor at Wellington School

  • Carlo Di Caterino

Carlo developed a passion for photography during his teens and initially concentrated on black & white shots, developing film and printing in his dark room.

His passion for photographing people later developed into landscape and architectural photography.

Obsessed with light, details and in constant search for beauty and perfection, Carlo puts great emphasis on searching the ideal light whether it be for a portrait or a landscape shot.

His favourite lens is the Sigma 105mm Macro.

  • Cllr Samia Chaudhary

Samia has been living in the Borough of Hounslow for 24 years now, and has a thorough understanding of the issues and concerns faced by local residents.

She has worked closely with her fellow Councillors in Hanworth to improve the environment, from running street clean-ups, campaigning for the restoration of Hanworth Park House, and contributing to the modernization of Hanworth Air Park.
