The shadow minister for employment Seema Malhotra MP today visited Hounslow Job Centre Plus, where she met with the staff of the jobcentre, which covers her own constituency of Feltham and Heston.

The visit comes following the Government’s announcement of the Kickstart scheme, which provides funding to employers to create placements for 16 to 24 year olds. Labour has welcomed the scheme, but has noted the need for the jobs to go to the places where they will have the highest impact and that small businesses may be excluded from the scheme as the minimum number of jobs that can be created is 30. They also reiterated their call for a continuation of the furlough scheme.

After her visit to the jobcentre, Seema Malhotra said: “Thank you Hounslow Job Centre Plus for my visit today to discuss Kickstart, employment support and back to work programmes. We know how hard your teams are working, and to help have support in place for those with special needs or disabilities, or no access to IT.

“I’m keen to hear from anyone wanting to help with ad hoc mentoring & employability support such as reviewing CVs. I’ll be writing to employers to ask them to help provide work opportunities with Kickstart – we all have a role to play to give young people the best chance in life.”
