Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra today called upon A2Dominion to look again at the opportunity for more retail provision at the site of the former Morrisons supermarket on Cavendish Parade in order to ensure that a better balance is achieved between much needed housing and vital local services.
Ms Malhotra this week met residents from the local community who are backed by local councillors to listen to their ongoing concerns about the proposed development.
Ms Malhotra has written to London’s Deputy Mayor for Housing with her concerns about the loss of retail facilities in the local community and has been assured that the Mayor and his team will consider issues raised when the current application is back to City Hall by Hounslow Council under a Stage 2 Referral.
Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham and Heston said, “The closure of Morrisons supermarket has hugely reduced the range of good quality products at low prices in walking distance for thousands of residents in the local area. They have told me how much harder just doing the weekly shop has become. The current proposal does nothing to rectify this, containing only a small retail unit when alternative proposals suggest that a unit twice the size could still be commercially viable.”
Local resident Minoo Dhiri who has been part of the local campaign team said “Clearly, there is an opportunity to still consider additional retail provision, and additional parking spaces for both residents and users of the new supermarket.”
