Students from Reach Academy in Parliament

The Labour MP for Feltham and Heston Seema Malhotra was today quizzed by children from Reach Academy about life as an MP and standing for election following a tumultuous week in world politics.

The Year 1 and Year 2 students were on an education visit to Parliament where they took part in discussions on democracy, voting and how Parliament works.

“What does an MP do?; “How did you get elected?” “Have you met the Prime Minister?” “What questions do you ask Ministers”, were among the questions for the MP.

Ms. Malhotra said “I was incredibly proud of the children of the children’s confidence in asking their questions.

“It was inspiring to see them so excited about Parliament. As someone who also grew up in Feltham, it was wonderful to see them start to connect Parliament with what goes on in the world around them at home.”

Ms. Malhotra also passed on the children’s best wishes to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow MP.

Ms. Malhotra is also holding regular tours of Parliament for constituents. If you would like to visit Parliament for a tour or watch a debate at other times you can contact her office on seema.malhotra.mp@parliament.uk. Children are welcome to join.
